Grounding (Indonesia)

The situation with grounding in Indonesia and many tropical countries is that the electricity supply from the power company comes as a two-wire system (live and neutral) without a dedicated earth wire. Proper grounding has to be added at the property level by installing a copper earth rod driven into the ground, connected to the electrical panel, and wired through to the sockets. Many properties in Bali and across Southeast Asia, particularly older villas and buildings, do not have this done properly or at all. Modern hotels and new-build villas typically do have proper grounding, but it is not guaranteed.

For your chiller, grounding matters because it is an electrical appliance that operates near water. If a fault develops and the metal frame or casing becomes live, grounding provides a safe path for the current to flow to earth, which trips the ELCB and cuts the power. Without grounding, the ELCB may not trip correctly in all fault scenarios, and anyone touching the unit could receive a shock.

Grounding. Our chiller includes an ELCB safety circuit breaker that protects against electrical faults. For this protection to work fully, the power outlet must be properly grounded (earthed). In many countries, including most of Europe, the UK, Australia, Singapore, and Japan, household electrical systems are grounded as standard. In Indonesia and some other tropical countries, grounding is not always present at the property level, particularly in older buildings. If your property does not have grounded outlets, we strongly recommend having a qualified electrician install an earth rod and grounding cable before the ice bath is connected. Our installation team checks for grounding during every Bali delivery and can advise on what is needed. This is a safety measure, not a warranty condition.
