FAQ
SPACE & INSTALLATION
How much space do I need?
Exact dimensions of the icebath and chiller can be found on the Installation Guide.
A 2m × 2m footprint is more than enough space and also includes a 20cm clearance on the chilling side for ample ventilation.
The chiller can be installed away from the icebath, for more information reach out to one of the team.
Can it go on the gym floor or does it need a dedicated room?
Either. Many gyms place the ice bath on the main floor near the cool-down area for visibility. Others use a dedicated recovery zone. We advise based on your space.
Can it go outdoors?
Yes. Marine-grade yacht finish handles sun, rain, and humidity. Popular with CrossFit boxes, Hyrox centres, and gyms with outdoor training areas.
Most of our installations are outdoors, see case studies and installation guides for more info.
How long does installation take?
For our standard installation where the chiller is placed next to the icebath unit, installation takes roughly one hour.
No construction. No plumbing. Operational the same day.
Can the chiller be hidden?
Yes. It can sit up to 5 metres from the bath, behind a wall, in a utility area, or underneath custom steps.
What about floor load?
The icebath and chiller weighs roughly 600kg filled and occupied, spread across roughly 1.5 square metres. Ground floors and modern construction handle this easily.
For upper floors, we provide exact weight specifications for your building manager.
DAILY OPERATIONS
Can it handle heavy daily use?
Yes. The chilling machine is built to commercial standard. The Unit can handle between 60-80 plunges per day.
Water Quality can be maintained following our recommended SOP’s
Does my team need specialist training?
No. We provide a detailed SOP with every installation, written for gym staff, not engineers. We train your team during handover.
What daily maintenance is required?
Our recommended Maintenance SOP’s for commercial users is available in our commercial water maintenance guide.
Can the ice bath run 24/7?
The chiller is designed to run 24/7. You should never remove it from its power socket, unless you are carrying out scheduled maintenance (eg water changes).
This does not mean the chiller is on all the time. The chiller automatically turns off when your target temperature has been hit, and turns on again when the temperature has rised 2 degrees above your desired temperature.
eg, if your desired temperature is 6, the chiller will always be between 6 and 8.
MEMBER EXPERIENCE
What temperature should I set it to?
Most gyms set between 5 and 10 degrees. Lower for experienced users, higher for newcomers. Multiple units can run at different temperatures to cater for every level.
How long should members stay in?
Typically 2 to 5 minutes depending on temperature and experience. We provide guidance materials you can display in your facility.
Should members shower before using it?
Yes. A mandatory shower-before-entry policy is essential. A 30-second rinse removes sweat, lotions, and deodrant. The primary cause of water quality issues.
Can I offer contrast sessions with sauna?
Yes. Position the ice bath near your sauna or steam room for a natural hot-cold circuit. No shared infrastructure needed.
Will members actually use it?
Once available, usage typically exceeds expectations. Start with one and scale as demand builds. Rental is avaliable in select markets if you want to test first.
Can I use it for classes or group sessions?
Yes. Guided breathwork and cold immersion sessions, post-workout recovery slots, bookable classes. Multiple units allow group sessions at different temperatures.
WATER QUALITY & HYGIENE
How is the water kept clean?
Three-stage purification runs continuously. Stainless steel filtration catches debris. UV-C sterilisation neutralises bacteria and viruses without chemicals. Constant circulation prevents stagnation.
In addition to this, the icebath also has a small skimmer placed before the water inlet to prevent larger pieces of dirt entering the main chilling system and smaller filter.
Is it hygienic for multiple members throughout the day?
Yes, provided the SOP is followed and users shower before entry. The purification runs continuously between sessions. Cold water is inherently less hospitable to bacteria than a warm jacuzzi or hot tub, and the UV-C sterilisation runs on top of that.
Do I need signage for hygiene?
We recommend signage for shower-before-entry, session duration, and basic safety. Templates provided.
HARDWARE & MAINTENANCE
How does the chiller connect to the bath?
Clip-in, clip-out stainless steel hose connections. No specialist tools. Standard hoses are 1 metre, extendable up to 5 metres.
How easy is it to replace parts?
The chiller is designed so every component is accessible and replaceable. In practice, the only part that requires routine replacement is the UV bulb, which has an expected lifespan of two years.
Follow the SOP and the chiller will run for a long time. If something does need replacing, parts are covered under warranty in the first year. After that, a full price list is available in our How To guide.
How loud is the chiller?
52 decibels. A low hum, similar to an air conditioning unit. Quiet enough for five-star hotel changing rooms and spa treatment rooms. For quieter settings, the chiller can sit up to 5 metres away in a utility area.
How much electricity does it use?
The Chiller uses 1.2kw/h when it is running and runs on a standard 220-240V Phase 1 electricity suppply. A standard plug socket.
Can it be moved if we rearrange the gym?
Yes. Drain, disconnect, move, reconnect. No plumber or electrician needed.
