FAQs

We are icebaths.com. Our company was founded after buying an unreliable chilling machine from China. We decided to embark upon a journey to not only build the best-looking, but also the best-performing ice bath in the world.

We build everything ourselves. From scratch.

Location & Installation.

Yes, all our units have been designed to perform both indoors and outdoors.

Provided you have good drainage and a close by water and electric source, the icebath can be installed anywhere.

Please see the videos in the knowledge center on how best to select a location for your icebath.

Noise: Place the chilling machine away from bedrooms or other quiet, habitable spaces.

After testing many pumps, we selected an industrial-grade circulation pump that keeps cooling performance high; it produces a low, steady hum—fine in a utility or service area, but not ideal next to a bedroom or living room.

Heat: The unit also releases a little heat, so choose a space with airflow (utility room, plant room, laundry, store, or outdoors under cover).

Our ice bath is designed to live happily outdoors—covered or uncovered. We finish every tub with a marine-grade yacht coating for maximum weather protection.

Because the wood is a natural material, an uncovered, fully exposed placement (strong sun, wind, rain, sea air) will gently weather the finish over time. This is purely cosmetic and does not affect performance.

Many owners love the natural patina the wood develops outside; others prefer the factory-fresh look.

You get to choose the aesthetic:

  • Let it age gracefully for a softer, lighter tone, or

  • Restore the original tone with a simple clean → light sand → re-finish (typically once a year). See our maintenance videos for the step-by-step.

You can. The chilling machine doesn’t need to sit beside the tub.

Our high-performance pump lets you position it up to 5 m away—in a utility room, cabinet, laundry, or plant room.

Want it even further? We can tailor hose lengths and layout to your space. Message us at hello@icebaths.com with your plan and we’ll spec the cleanest, quietest solution.

Tip: choose a ventilated spot, away from bedrooms—the unit emits a gentle hum and a little heat.

Electricity

No, our units are plug and play and work with normal mains electricity (Phase 1). We do not require additional electricity work for the units.

Each chilling machine operates on 1,200 watts or 1.2kw.

The price to run your icebath depends on the price of electricity in the region you are living. The icebath is never turned off, but this does not necessarily mean it is running all the time (see performance section).

Typically, for residential usage and when set at the lowest temperature the chilling machine is turned on for an 8 hour period out of a 24 hour day.

This works out at an electricity consumption of 9.5kwh per day. Or roughly 290 kwh in a 30 day month.

For Bali, this works out at around $30 USD per month. This will be higher in regions with higher electricity costs.

No, the chilling machine works on the thermostat. Meaning that the chiller is automatically turned off when the desired temperature is reached.

The icebath will automatically switch back on again when the temperature of the water has risen above your desired temperature.

You can select the range of temperatures that trigger the chiller to turn on and off on your app.

The icebath can work in any region around the world.

For Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia - the icebath can be plugged into mains electricity and work as normal.

For USA and Latin America - please see the following blog post.

Water Quality and Maintenance.

All our units use a three-stage purification system designed for clarity and hygiene:

  1. Intake skimmer/screen (at the base): Catches hair and larger debris before it reaches the main filter.

  2. Cartridge filtration: Removes fine particles to keep water visibly clean.

  3. UV disinfection: Targets bacteria and microorganisms without adding chemicals or odors.

This combination delivers clear, fresh water for daily use with minimal effort.

As a simple rule of thumb for residential use:

Clean/rinse the filter: Weekly

Change the water: Monthly

For commercial or high-traffic locations:

More regular cleaning of the filter and water may be required depending on how many guests use the icebath per day and how clean they are before entering.

Generally, we discourage the usage of chlorine for our icebath units. The system is fully compatible if you do decide to use chlorine but often its not necessary.

For residential usage, filtration system and UV system alone is more than enough to effectively clean the water without the need for supplementation of chemicals.

For commercial usage, especially when upwards of 30+ people are using the icebath per day, 100ml of 30% hydrogen peroxide (30%) keeps the water looking fresh and prevents the build up of algae.
